A 12 foot kayak is going to be a recreational boat best suited for paddling on lakes and other flatwater. Whitewater kayaks are shorter with lots of rocker and no keel. Sea kayaks are longer and usually more narrow to track better and be more stable.
It can be used for both, but will like the calmer waters better! Sea yaking will just not be a smooth as a longer kayak. A longer Kayak is less susceptible to the bobbing when traveling as they ride the waves where a short goes up and down with the wave!
